#DontSpoilTheEndgame – A Review of Avengers: Endgame

Avengers: Endgame starts strong and in typical Avengers style. Never ending optimism from Captain America, pessimism from Iron Man and stubbornness from the surviving Avengers, hell-bent on undoing Thanos’ sassy snap from Infinity War.

The characters are once again great. All the actors (especially Chris Hemsworth) are bringing their A game to this film, and showing us a side to their characters we may not have seen before.

While I had no issue with the acting, I found massive issue in the story. There’s a certain trope I cannot stand; from movies to fanfiction I find it a cheap way to tell a story. It was one I never thought an Avengers movie would go down.

The blasé way this crucial element was discovered and discussed throughout the movie was perturbing to say the least. I often heard throughout the cinema “what, how can that happen?” and “I don’t get it”.

“I don’t get it”.

Unless you’re watching the Da Vinci Code or Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, you should never feel this way during a movie. Especially not one which has three hours to explain itself thoroughly.

The graphics were stunning, the acting was executed well, it was funny and heartbreaking in the right parts. But the story let it down so far that to me it just wasn’t the ending I was hoping for for these magnificent characters.

I understand these are the thoughts of one person and there are many people out there who absolutely adore this film. But for those of you who were also a little deflated by it all – you’re not alone.
